Alkami has expanded its relationship with Texans Credit Union through its digital banking platform and MANTL account opening system. According to a case study, the Texas credit union increased active digital banking users by 42% after the move.

Texans Credit Union, based in Richardson, serves more than 150,000 members. Figures released by Alkami show the lender raised its net promoter score to 89.4 from 73.6, doubled online accounts booked in the first month after launching MANTL, and reduced average account-opening time across channels to about 5.7 minutes.

The roll-out reflects a broader trend among regional lenders and credit unions revisiting digital banking projects after core platform changes. Rather than treating a migration as a one-off technology replacement, some are using it to add tools for onboarding, payments, fraud controls, and customer service.

Texans first moved from its previous digital banking provider to Alkami's platform, then added MANTL Onboarding & Account Opening. It also used Alkami's software development kit to build My Texans Hub, a service designed to make relationship information easier for members to find.

Texans also adopted integrated third-party tools for money movement, fraud prevention, mobile deposit, direct deposit switching, and member service. Those additions helped connect application, decisioning, and funding more directly with digital banking across both online and branch channels, according to Alkami.

One of the clearest operational changes came in branches. In-branch account opening became up to five times faster, while the first six weeks of the in-branch MANTL experience generated more than 1,200 applications and nearly USD $11.5 million in deposits, according to Alkami.

Digital shift

For credit unions, speed and ease of account opening have become central competitive issues as customers compare experiences across banks, fintech apps, and other consumer services. At the same time, lenders need branch systems to work alongside digital journeys rather than apart from them.

Texans appears to have focused on connecting those channels. According to the information released, its account-opening process now spans digital and in-person activity through the same setup, with the aim of reducing friction for both staff and members.

Mike McWethy, Executive Vice President at Texans Credit Union, said the work was intended to go beyond replacing an app or website.

"Alkami gave us more than a new Digital Banking Platform. It gave us a long-term partner and the infrastructure to create the experiences members need to manage and advance their financial lives," said Mike McWethy, Executive Vice President at Texans Credit Union. "Our goal isn't simply to have more digital users; it's to make the experience valuable enough that members want to keep engaging with us, and Alkami is central to how we create that engagement. By making it easier to take action, delivering relevant insights, and connecting account opening directly into digital banking, we can meet members in the moment, deepen relationships, and help them do more with us. That means we can move faster, scale with the organization, and continue improving the member experience over time, supporting growth, retention, and innovation."

Broader strategy

Alkami framed the Texans deployment as an example of how lenders can use a platform conversion as the basis for a wider operating model rather than an isolated upgrade. That includes tailoring customer-facing tools through software development kits and plugging in specialist providers where internal development may be slower or more costly.

The case also points to the continuing importance of app quality and member sentiment as measures of progress. Texans achieved a 4.8-star App Store rating after the change, according to Alkami, while its improvement in net promoter score suggests the digital overhaul may have influenced broader perceptions of service.

For providers such as Alkami, which sells software to US banks and credit unions, customer case studies also help show measurable returns from digital modernisation at a time when technology spending remains under scrutiny. Buyers increasingly want evidence of deposit growth, faster onboarding, and improved user activity rather than broad promises about digital transformation.

Benjamin Conant, Chief Product Officer at Alkami, said Texans had used the conversion as a starting point for broader changes.

"Texans Credit Union demonstrates the compounding value of treating a platform conversion as the foundation for a broader growth strategy," said Benjamin Conant, Chief Product Officer at Alkami. "By bringing together onboarding and account opening, digital banking, an extensible SDK, and an ecosystem of integrated technology partners, Texans has greater flexibility to determine what it needs and how to deliver it. The results show how that flexibility can translate into stronger engagement, greater efficiency, and measurable growth."
