Supplyline Medical has integrated its Shopify eCommerce storefront with its NetSuite ERP system using Patchworks, linking the distributor's online sales and back-office operations in real time.
The New Jersey-based medical distributor supplies hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities across the United States with products including personal protective equipment, respiratory equipment, diagnostic tools, mobility aids and patient care supplies.
The integration synchronises orders, inventory and customer data between the two systems. Orders placed through the eCommerce platform now flow automatically into NetSuite, while stock levels and customer records update across the business without manual intervention.
Delivered with systems integrator Bemeir, the project supports more than 30 automated process flows across Supplyline Medical's operations. The changes are intended to reduce manual work, improve order accuracy and give staff clearer visibility of transactions and stock.
Digital procurement
The development comes as healthcare providers rely more heavily on digital procurement channels to source equipment and consumables. That shift has increased focus on the systems distributors use to manage orders and stock, particularly where delays or inventory errors can affect the supply of essential items.
Industry data cited by Supplyline Medical points to persistent pressure on the sector. IBM research found that about 59% to 83% of organisations have reported delays in essential materials, while the National Institutes of Health has estimated that healthcare supply chain inefficiencies cost the US industry about USD $25 billion to USD $25.7 billion a year.
Those inefficiencies have been linked to fragmented systems, manual processes and limited real-time visibility into inventory and orders. In response, distributors have been investing in eCommerce and integration tools that connect sales channels with enterprise software.
For Supplyline Medical, the need appears to have grown alongside its eCommerce operations. As online ordering expanded, the business needed a way to keep commercial and operational data aligned across separate platforms.
Operational flows
Patchworks says its platform provides a real-time connection between commerce systems and enterprise applications. In this case, the integration creates a continuous exchange of data between Shopify and NetSuite, keeping customer orders and stock information aligned.
The company also highlighted a technical feature known as Connection Pools, which it says helps manage API concurrency limits within NetSuite. This is intended to let higher transaction volumes move through the system without disrupting data flows.
In practical terms, the distributor can process online orders while keeping inventory records current across the business. For healthcare customers, accurate stock data and reliable order processing are important when procurement teams need fast access to supplies.
The project reflects a wider push across healthcare logistics to replace manual workflows with automated data exchange. Distributors and suppliers have been under pressure to improve resilience after repeated supply disruptions exposed the limits of older procurement processes.
Supplyline Medical says the integrated setup gives it a base for growth without replacing core systems. It adds that the architecture should allow the business to add sales channels or expand operations while keeping central order and inventory data connected.
UK-based Patchworks focuses on integration software for eCommerce operations, connecting systems such as online stores, warehouse platforms, ERP applications, CRM tools, point-of-sale systems and marketplaces. Its software is used by retailers and distributors to automate data flows between systems that would otherwise operate separately.
Jim Herbert, Chief Executive Officer at Patchworks, commented on the importance of integration in healthcare distribution.
"Healthcare supply chains depend on reliable data and seamless process flows. When systems are disconnected or rely on manual processes, it becomes much harder to maintain the level of reliability healthcare providers require. By integrating eCommerce and operational systems in real time, distributors like Supplyline Medical can build the digital infrastructure needed to scale while ensuring critical supplies reach the organisations that depend on them," said Herbert.
