Juspay teams with Recurly on subscription payments

Juspay has partnered with Recurly to integrate its Hyperswitch payments platform into Recurly's subscription billing system, giving Recurly merchants access to more than 300 payment service providers and acquirers.
The agreement connects Recurly's recurring billing software with Hyperswitch, Juspay's open-source payment orchestration platform. The integration is designed to help subscription businesses add payment providers and methods without building separate technical connections for each one.
Recurly merchants use the platform to manage subscriber billing across sectors including digital media, streaming, eCommerce, software and consumer goods. For those businesses, payment performance is critical because failed transactions can directly lead to lost revenue and customer churn.
Under the arrangement, Recurly is also using Hyperswitch's Platform Organisation mode, allowing it to onboard and manage merchants across its customer base through a single setup. As a result, subscription companies using Recurly can connect to new providers through the same integration layer rather than making direct changes to their own payment systems.
The partnership is intended to improve checkout and recurring payment flows for end users by expanding the range of payment options available in different markets. It is also expected to shorten the time merchants need to launch in new geographies or add local payment methods.
Payments focus
Subscription commerce has become increasingly dependent on stable recurring payments as businesses expand across borders and offer localised payment choices. Merchants often work with multiple payment partners to raise approval rates, manage costs and reduce exposure to outages, but adding those connections can create operational complexity.
Juspay provides infrastructure that sits between merchants and payment providers. It says it serves more than 500 enterprises and banks, processing more than 300 million daily transactions and more than USD $1 trillion in annualised total payment volume.
Founded in Bangalore, Juspay has expanded across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Latin America, Europe, the UK and North America. The company says it employs more than 1,500 payment specialists and works with companies including Amazon, Google, HSBC, Agoda and Zurich Insurance.
Earlier this year, Juspay raised USD $50 million in a Series D funding round led by WestBridge Capital, which valued the company at USD $1.2 billion. The fundraising highlighted investor interest in payment infrastructure groups that help merchants gain more control over how transactions are routed and managed.
Subscription market
Recurly is known for subscription management and recurring billing software used by brands ranging from streaming services to airlines and software companies. The company says its platform is used by thousands of businesses, including Paramount+, Alaska Airlines, Sling, FabFitFun and Sprout Social.
The partnership gives Recurly a broader payments network through Hyperswitch's connections to payment service providers and acquirers. That could be especially relevant for subscription businesses in markets where local payment methods or specialist acquirers are important for maintaining conversion and reducing failed renewals.
Matt Healey, Director of Product Partnerships at Juspay, said subscription businesses need payment infrastructure that is reliable and built to scale.
"Subscription businesses need a payment infrastructure that is reliable and built to scale," said Matt Healey, Director of Product Partnerships, Juspay. "Through Hyperswitch, we enable merchants to reduce payment friction, and expand into new markets without rebuilding their payment stack from scratch. Our partnership with Recurly brings these capabilities directly into the subscription management workflow, where payment performance matters most."
Recurly said the integration is intended to give merchants more flexibility in how they connect payments to their subscription operations.
"Flexibility and performance are non-negotiable for subscription businesses operating at global scale," said Jonas Flodh, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Recurly. "By integrating Juspay Hyperswitch with Recurly's platform, merchants gain access to best-in-class integrations in a vast payments network that will open up access to new payment methods and markets."
Juspay has positioned Hyperswitch as an open-source alternative in a payments market often dominated by proprietary systems. The platform is designed to let merchants and platforms connect payment processing, acquiring, fraud tools, tokenisation, vaulting and 3DS authentication through a modular structure.
For Recurly customers, the practical effect of the deal will likely depend on how quickly they can activate additional payment options and improve transaction acceptance in the markets where they operate. Access to a larger network of providers may also help subscription merchants maintain payment resilience if a single provider experiences disruption.
Juspay said Hyperswitch has more than 42,000 stars on GitHub.
