Temu joins INTA anti-counterfeiting committee to boost IP rights
Temu has joined the International Trademark Association as a corporate member and will participate on its Anti-Counterfeiting Committee as part of its efforts to enhance global intellectual property (IP) protection.
The International Trademark Association (INTA) is a global body comprising more than 6,700 organisations and over 37,000 trademark professionals and brand owners operating in 181 countries. Temu's inclusion as a member aims to widen the company's involvement in industry-wide initiatives focusing on protecting trademarks and curbing illicit trade, particularly within eCommerce.
Alastair Gray, Director of Anti-Counterfeiting at INTA, welcomed Temu's engagement with the organisation's anti-counterfeiting programmes and collaborative framework. Gray said:
"INTA welcomes TEMU's willingness to engage in anticounterfeiting initiatives, including in the Association's annual Anticounterfeiting Workshop and Online Takedown Certificate Program which serve to share best practices and connect stakeholders. Constructive collaboration with these efforts can contribute to the protection of intellectual property rights for INTA members and support the removal of counterfeit products from the platform which ultimately protects consumers."
During the 2025 INTA Annual Meeting in San Diego, Temu participated as a moderator in the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee Roundtable. The event provided a platform for discussion among brand owners, online platforms, and government officials, focusing on technologies and best practices to coordinate anti-counterfeiting measures across jurisdictions and industries.
A spokesperson for Temu stated that membership of the organisation and participation in its committee underlines the company's priorities around customer trust and IP compliance. The spokesperson said:
"Joining INTA and serving on its Anti-Counterfeiting Committee reflects Temu's ongoing commitment to ensuring a trustworthy online shopping experience. We value collaboration with industry peers and stakeholders and are dedicated to advancing collective efforts in intellectual property protection."
Temu's involvement includes engagement in INTA-led online workshops such as the Online Platform Notice and Takedown Certification Program. These sessions detail the latest processes, standards, and methodologies used by eCommerce platforms and social media providers for moderating content and responding to right-holder complaints. The workshops are designed to enhance the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of takedown processes by improving coordination between platforms and rights holders.
Since its launch in 2022, Temu has reported investments in various measures to improve its IP enforcement. The company's approach includes seller vetting processes, mandatory compliance training for vendors, and ongoing algorithmic monitoring with additional manual review. An internal team dedicated to IP enforcement has been established to manage and process claims, incorporating a dedicated portal and brand registry system to facilitate right-holders in submitting takedown requests efficiently.
Temu operates a global eCommerce platform, connecting consumers with manufacturers, brands, and partners in over 90 markets. The company has stated its commitment to balancing access to affordable products and the need for extensive IP safeguards to help protect purchasers and the brands featured on its marketplace.
