StormForge unveils ML innovations for Kubernetes cost savings

Yesterday

StormForge, a company under CloudBolt, has introduced significant updates to its Kubernetes optimisation platform aimed at improving cost efficiency for enterprises.

The company has launched three new features, focusing on node-level optimisation, Java heap size automation, and a pay-as-you-go pricing model via AWS Marketplace, to facilitate businesses in managing their Kubernetes environments more effectively.

Node optimisation and reporting form a crucial part of StormForge's new offerings. This feature uses machine learning technology to optimise workload placement on the appropriate node types, such as compute-optimised or memory-optimised nodes, thereby enhancing cluster performance and resource management.

Nick Walker, Director of Product at StormForge, commented, "Cluster autoscalers are inherently greedy algorithms. They are looking at the set of unscheduled pods right in front of them and making decisions without any foresight. With our ML-powered solution, we can provide future-facing predictions that guide the autoscaler to make smarter decisions, ensuring optimal utilisation of resources across the entire cluster."

The Node Optimisation and Reporting tools aim to deliver comprehensive insights into cluster utilisation, aiding in tracking the effects of pod right-sizing and spotting inefficiencies in node usage.

Another feature, Java Heap Size Recommendations, has now reached general availability after its preview last year. This solution automates the analysis of essential Java metrics and offers tailored suggestions for adjusting heap sizes. StormForge aims to simplify heap size configuration, reducing the errors and efforts usually involved.

Walker further stated, "Having SREs and platform engineers manually tweak Java heap sizes is like having your accountant take your laundry to the dry cleaner. It's a waste of time and resources. With StormForge, we automate that process so your team can focus on higher-value tasks."

Further enhancing accessibility, StormForge is introducing a Pay-as-You-Go pricing model on AWS Marketplace. This model allows organisations to optimise their Kubernetes environments effortlessly, without binding contracts, and provides flexibility in scaling usage according to necessity.

This pricing structure integrates easily with AWS accounts and supports Enterprise Discount Plans (EDP) and Private Pricing Agreements (PPA), helping users manage cloud costs effectively while boosting workload efficiency.

Interested parties can find more information about these updates and explore the new features by visiting StormForge's booth at a relevant industry event or through their AWS Marketplace listing.
