Stake adds portfolio chart & stock move explainers

Wed, 22nd Apr 2026 (Today)

Stake has launched two in-app features, Performance Chart and Why It's Moving, adding portfolio tracking and market context to its investing platform.

Performance Chart gives customers an interactive view of portfolio performance across the Australian and US markets. It includes both current and sold holdings, allowing users to review their investing history across different time periods rather than relying on a snapshot of current positions.

Users can track returns across custom date ranges and examine performance at specific points in time through interactive chart controls. The feature also updates in near real time while markets are open.

Why It's Moving appears on supported US stock pages and through notifications. It provides real-time summaries written by journalists to explain significant share price moves and highlight news that may be driving volatility in individual stocks.

The release comes amid unsettled markets and growing demand from retail investors for more detailed information inside trading apps. Platforms once focused mainly on low-friction market access are increasingly adding analysis tools and contextual news as customers seek clearer explanations for portfolio moves and stock price swings.

The Performance Chart is intended to provide a fuller record of investing activity by including both closed and open positions. This allows users to assess longer-term trends and compare outcomes across different periods, rather than judging performance only by the holdings they currently own.

Customer demand

Stake said the launch responds to requests from active investors for better visibility over results. Bryan Wilmot, chief customer officer, described the chart as the first in a broader suite of portfolio analysis tools.

"One of the most requested features from our active investors has been better performance visibility, so this is the first in a suite of portfolio analysis tools on the roadmap. Investing is a journey, not just a daily snapshot. The performance chart is designed to give each customer a clearer understanding of how they're tracking over time, helping them evaluate decisions with more confidence and context, and reduce noise-driven reactions to short term swings," Wilmot said.

The second feature focuses on explaining abrupt moves in US-listed shares. Rather than showing only a price change, it adds short news summaries intended to explain what has happened around the stock at the time of the move.

Stake said the summaries draw on third-party news reporting and human curation. They are presented in-app, so users do not need to search across multiple services when a stock moves sharply.

Retail shift

The dual rollout reflects a broader shift in retail investing, where access to markets is no longer the primary point of differentiation. Many investors now expect platforms to offer a fuller picture of how their money has performed, alongside tools that help them interpret fast-moving news in heavily traded markets such as the US.

Why It's Moving is designed around that pattern of behaviour. Wilmot said the challenge for many investors is not a lack of information, but sorting relevant material from a large volume of content.

"With more content available than ever, investors don't just need information, they need relevant information delivered in context. Why It's Moving does some of the heavy lifting by surfacing timely summaries in-app, combining trusted third-party news sources with human curation. This reflects how investors naturally seek information, but brings it together in one place rather than requiring them to search across multiple sources," said Wilmot.

Founded in Australia, Stake has more than USD $6 billion in assets under administration. The platform offers access to US markets, CHESS-sponsored ASX trades, an income fund product, and a self-managed super fund administration and investing service.

Performance Chart is being rolled out progressively to customers who update to the latest version of the Stake app. At the same time,e Why It's Moving is already available on supported US stock pages.
