Penske Logistics has launched Supply Chain Insight, a technology platform and mobile app for supply chain operations that gives customers a real-time view of transportation and warehousing activity.

The platform brings together operational data from multiple systems in a single dashboard, allowing users to track loads, orders and inventory. It is aimed at companies under pressure to improve efficiency as fuel costs rise, regulations change and economic conditions remain uncertain.

According to Penske, Supply Chain Insight combines data from transportation, warehousing and third-party systems. The approach is intended to reduce gaps during handoffs and help users identify delays and other disruptions more quickly.

A second part of the platform focuses on performance measurement, with more than 85 pre-built and customisable metrics. These are designed to help senior managers monitor longer-term trends while frontline teams track day-to-day operations.

The system also includes an artificial intelligence assistant that can answer natural-language queries about loads, orders and performance data. Penske said this is intended to let staff retrieve operational information without relying on analysts or navigating multiple dashboards.

Another feature extends visibility beyond operations directly managed by Penske. The platform can integrate data from external warehouses, carriers and other partners to provide what Penske described as a fuller picture of a customer's network.

Cloud platform

Supply Chain Insight was developed on Microsoft Azure, with Snowflake as the core data platform. Penske described the system as cloud-native and designed to support integration across complex logistics networks.

The launch reflects a wider push across the supply chain sector to unify data from separate software systems and deliver more immediate operational insight. Logistics operators and their customers have been investing in tools that promise better oversight of freight movement, warehouse activity and inventory levels as disruption and cost pressure remain constant features of global supply chains.

Jeff Jackson, President of Penske Logistics, outlined the company's rationale for the launch. "Our goal with the launch and development of Supply Chain Insight is to help our customers accelerate supply chain performance," he said.

"This new platform provides customers with an unprecedented and unified view across their highly complex transportation and warehousing operations. It connects data that is often split across separate systems, giving teams a clearer picture of what's happening across their supply chain. We plan to continue developing this platform, integrate with other systems and drive further enhancements using AI going forward," Jackson said.

Penske said the platform was built to support reliability, availability and data protection while handling large volumes of operational information. These issues have become more significant for logistics groups as customers seek faster reporting and greater transparency across outsourced and partner-run operations.

Customer demand

Mike Medeiros, Executive Vice President of Operations at Penske Logistics, said customers are seeking more flexible ways to work with operational data. "Our customers increasingly need greater visibility and more flexible ways to view their operations," he said.

"No two operations run the same, and the way teams use data should reflect that. With Supply Chain Insight, our customers can define the metrics that matter most to their business, set performance thresholds and focus on areas that can drive increased efficiency and results," Medeiros said.

Penske Logistics is based in Reading, Pennsylvania, and provides services including dedicated transportation, distribution centre management, fourth-party logistics, transportation management and freight brokerage.
