Manhattan Associates has launched Editions for its Manhattan Active software suite, aimed at businesses at different stages of growth.

The new structure applies to ActiveWarehouse, ActiveTransportation, ActiveStore and ActiveOrder, all of which run on ActivePlatform. Customers can choose from three tiers: Essentials, Enterprise and Enterprise Premier.

The model is designed to let smaller and mid-sized organisations adopt Manhattan's supply chain and commerce software without replacing systems as they grow. Instead of offering separate products for different customer groups, Manhattan has created tiered access within the same software platform.

Businesses can start with a more limited edition and move to broader access as their operational needs become more complex. According to Manhattan, those upgrades can happen without a new implementation, data migration or staff retraining.

Tiered access

Manhattan is positioning Editions as a commercial model rather than a separate product line. Each edition runs on the same cloud-based platform, with access varying by tier.

The model is aimed at organisations that want to avoid committing to a full-scale software deployment at the outset while keeping the option to expand later. Customers can also combine different editions across solution families as business requirements change.

The launch addresses a common issue in the enterprise software market: growing companies often must choose between tools built for their current scale and larger systems designed for more complex operations. Moving from one to the other can require fresh spending on deployment, process redesign and staff training.

By keeping customers on one platform, Manhattan is seeking to reduce those transition points. The editions are intended to let firms add functions over time rather than replace the underlying system.

Operational focus

According to Manhattan, the Essentials tier is aimed at businesses that want to address immediate operational priorities without taking on major infrastructure or IT demands. The software also includes AI-assisted configuration, deployment automation and guided configuration tools intended to shorten setup times.

The broader offering includes continuous delivery and quarterly software updates through the cloud model. While that approach is now standard across much of the software market, Manhattan is using it to support its argument that customers can stay on a single platform through different phases of growth.

The launch also highlights how software suppliers are adapting sales models to win customers earlier in their life cycle. Rather than focusing only on large enterprises with the budget and internal teams for broad implementations, vendors are increasingly creating entry points for businesses that expect to scale but want to limit initial complexity.

That is particularly relevant in supply chain and commerce software, where warehouse operations, transport planning, order management and in-store fulfilment can become difficult to manage on fragmented systems. Companies often want to avoid building separate technology estates across those functions if they expect to need tighter integration later.

Brian Kinsella, Chief Product Officer at Manhattan Associates, outlined the reasoning behind the launch.

“One of the most important decisions a growing organization can make is choosing the right technology partner for Commerce and Supply Chain. Each step of their growth journey requires operational excellence in selling and fulfillment, given the direct impact they have on customer experience,” Kinsella said.

He said the editions model is meant to remove the disruption that can come with moving between software systems as a company expands.

“Editions changes that equation. Businesses can start with Essentials and move to Enterprise or Enterprise Premier as their needs evolve, without migrating to a new system, reimplementing processes or retraining teams. Now, they simply unlock more of the same platform, gaining the capability they need when they need it, without disruption. Editions are a path to scale that protects the value of every technology decision along the way,” Kinsella said.

Manhattan describes itself as a provider of supply chain and omnichannel commerce software for global businesses. By applying Editions across four Manhattan Active products, the company is seeking to broaden its reach beyond large-scale users while keeping customers on the same software base as they grow.
