n8n unveils version 2.0 with major security & interface updates

Thu, 27th Nov 2025

n8n has announced the upcoming release of version 2.0, with several updates aimed at enhancing its workflow automation and agent-based orchestration platform. The transition marks the first major version change since the release of version 1.0 in July 2023, reflecting changes intended to improve maturity, security and reliability across its user base, which spans from individuals to multinational clients.

Feature changes

With version 2.0, n8n will introduce a range of new features. Among them is an autosave function, long requested by users, which is expected to be available shortly after the stable release. Additional interface updates include an improved canvas display and a revamped sidebar. The company has indicated there will be other feature additions to follow, with further details to be outlined in future releases.

Security updates

The update includes several breaking changes aimed at bolstering security and improving performance. These modifications affect expected platform behaviour, enforce more robust security measures, and alter storage backends and configuration processes. The changes will require users to review and potentially modify their deployments to ensure compatibility with the new version.

Migration support

n8n has introduced a Migration Report tool designed to assist users in identifying workflow or instance-level issues that require attention before upgrading. Available from within the application's settings for global administrators, the tool helps users prepare their systems for the transition to version 2.0. Documentation has also been published to outline migration paths in detail.

Community and enterprise

The enhancements and fixes will be made available across all product lines, including community, cloud, and enterprise editions. This decision maintains parity between versions and ensures that all user groups benefit from the new features and security improvements.

Previous versions

Support for version 1.x will continue for three months following the release of version 2.0. During this period, updates to the earlier version will be limited to security fixes and bug resolution. No further feature enhancements are planned for the 1.x series.

"In order to improve security & performance, simplify configuration, and remove legacy features, we're making some necessary changes to expected behaviour, security enforcement, storage backends, configuration and environment variables," said the n8n engineering team.
